Snaggletooth Correction
Beyond simple esthetic concerns, a snaggletooth can cause cavities, gum disease, and in severe cases even jaw joint (TMJ) disorders, so it is best treated with orthodontic treatment.
What is a snaggletooth?
A snaggletooth is a tooth that comes in crooked and out of place because there is not enough room for it. It is most common in the canines because they erupt late, but it also often occurs in the front teeth or molars.
Most snaggleteeth develop when baby teeth fall out and permanent teeth come in without enough room, causing the teeth to overlap. Causes include baby teeth that do not fall out on time or fall out too early, and severe cavities in baby teeth. Genetics or a narrow jawbone that leaves too little room for the teeth to come in straight can also be causes.
Effects of snaggletooth correction
You can smile brightly and confidently when talking or laughing.
If a protruding mouth is also present, orthodontic treatment improves it at the same time.
Less food gets stuck between the teeth, reducing cavities and gum disease.
Improved bite makes chewing easier and improves jaw joint health.
