Retrusive Chin Correction

A retrusive chin is the opposite of an underbite: the lower jaw is underdeveloped relative to the upper jaw, which makes a protruding mouth more noticeable and can make it hard to close the lips.

What is a retrusive chin?

A retrusive chin is when the lower jaw is smaller than the upper jaw. From the side, the lower jaw looks smaller and set back, so the mouth appears to stick out. With a retrusive chin, the mouth looks even more protruding, and the face often looks short or the jawline is poorly defined, like a bird's.

Genetic factors have the greatest influence on a retrusive chin, but it can also develop later in life due to a thumb-sucking habit from childhood or an accident.

Our Head Director draws on 16 years of orthodontic expertise
to correct retrusive chins.

When the lower jaw is extremely short and the skeletal problem is severe, surgery may be needed.
