Crossbite Correction
Crossbite is a condition in which the lower front teeth cover the upper front teeth when the mouth is closed. If left untreated, it can develop into an underbite, so it is best to detect and treat it early.
What Is Crossbite?
In a normal bite, the upper teeth sit outside the lower teeth when the mouth is closed. A crossbite is when the lower front teeth cover the upper front teeth when the mouth is closed, and it is common with an underbite. In many cases, a crossbite affects only some of the front teeth (lateral incisors: tooth #2) rather than all of them.
Crossbite occurs when baby teeth are left in place too long and the permanent teeth erupt in the wrong direction, when the upper jaw does not grow sideways as much as the lower jaw, or from habits such as thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, or jutting the jaw forward.
Benefits of Crossbite Correction
The protruding look of the lower lip is improved.
Chewing function and dental health are improved.
As the lower jaw moves back, the nose looks relatively higher.
An underbite is improved or prevented.
